QUICKENING STAGE

September 1960

David Dongjin Cho, after study of world mission at the Asbury Theological Seminary and earned Th. M., returned to Seoul, Korea. He started the lecture on Christian Mission at the Presbyterian General Assembly Seminaryin 1961. This was the beginning of mission study at the theological seminaries in Korea.

March 1961

David Dongjin Cho formed the mission committee at Hoo-Am Presbyterian Church which he was ministering. This was the first local church mission committee.

January 1965

David Dongjin Cho was elected as the Chairman of Organizing Committee of the National Evangelization Campaign of Korea. The concluding rally was held at his Hoo-Am Presbyterian Church which he was ministering, and quickening idea od establishment of Korea International Mission was conceived in his heart.

September 1966

David Dongjin Cho attended the All Asian Evangelism Conference in Tokyo, Japan as the head of 12 delegates of Korean Church. After return from the conference, all the Korean participants gathered together and formed Ad Hoc Committee of establishment of Korea International Mission and elected Jae-Shin Suh as the Chairman and David Dongjin Cho as the General Secretaty.

October 1966

David Dongjin Cho attended to the Berlin Congress of World Evangelism with 9 other Korean delegates. He made extended trip to the United States to visit major evanggelical mission agencies and collected needed reference documents and materials of mission operation to prepare the establishment of Korea International Mission.

July 1967

David Dongjin Cho established ‘Christian Herald Press’ and began to publush books for missions and evangelism.

The Inaugural Board of Directors of Korea International Mission was formed. Rev. Youn Ho Kwon was elected as the Chairman of the Board and Rev. David Dongjin Cho was named as the General Director. ‘The International School of Mission: ISM’ as the missionary training institute was established simultaneously.

The Inaugural Board of Directors of Korea International Mission was formed. Rev. Youn Ho Kwon was elected as the Chairman of the Board and Rev. David Dongjin Cho was named as the General Director. ‘The International School of Mission: ISM’ as the missionary training institute was established simultaneously.

‘The International School of Mission: ISM’ was authorized by the Board of Education of Seoul. and opened.

Sep. 17, 1968

‘The Christian Herald’ as a world mission journal, was found.

Jan. 15, 1969

Rev. Jae Shin Suh was elected as the second Chairman of the Board of KIM.

May 1969

David Dongjin Cho was elected as the Executive Chairman of the Planning for the first congress of evangelism of Korea.

Nov. 16, 1969

The first missionary of KIM, Rev. Doo Hyuk Yoon and his wife Ok Hyun Koh, were sent to Hong Kong and they served until 1974 and completed the first term.

Jan. 15, 1970

Rev. Hwan Soo Lee was elected as the third Chairman of KIM.

March 1970

Rev. Soon Il Kim and his wife Yoon Hee Kim were commissioned as missionaries to Thailand. They served until 1975 and sppointed as the General Director of the East-West Center for Missions Research and Development.

Rev. Jae Shin Suh was elected as the fourth Chairman of the Board of KIM.

Rev. Hong Shik Shin and his wife Soon Young Lee were commissioned as missionaries to Thailand.

Jul. 7, 1971

Rev. Heung Been Lim and his wife In Ae Oh were commissioned as missionaries to Brunei.

Aug. 13, 1971

Rev. Daniel Dongso Cho was commissioned as a Missionary to Hong Kong.

Oct. 13, 1971

KIM/US was incorporated to the Illinois State as a non-profit organization.

September 1972

David Dongjin Cho attended the Green Lake EMA/IFMA Summer Conference and announced the plan of calling the All-Asian Missions Consultation in Seoul, Korea on August 1973.

Aug. 27, 1973

All-Asian Missions Consultation was held in Seoul, Korea with co-sponsoring of COFAE and KIM.

Sep. 3, 1973

ISM: International School of Mission enlarged as the East-West Center for Missions Research and Development and the first Summer Institute of World Mission was held.

Jul. 15, 1974

David Dongjin Cho and five other delegates from KIM attended to the Lausanne International Congress of World Evangelization and David Dongjin Cho served as a speaker of the Congress.

Aug. 27, 1975

KIM was the sponsoring body of the Inaugural Convention of the Asia Missions Association which was held in Seoul, Korea. David Dongjin Cho was elected as the General Secretary of AMA.

Rev. Eun Moo Lee was commissioned as a missionary to Indonesia

October 1976

Rev. Jung Woong Kim and his wife Soon Kyo Lee were commissioned as missionaries to Thailand.

July 1978

Mr. Dong Hwa Kim and his wife Hyun Sook Lee were sent to SIL as candidates of Bible translators.

David Dongjin Cho resigned from pastorship of Hoo-Am Church and began full time CEO as the General Director of KIM.

The second triennial convention of AMA was held in Singapore.

January 1979

Rev. Yoon Soo Kim was elected as the fifth Chairman of the Board of KIM.

March 1979

Helen Eungoak Cho was appointed as the Director of Publication of KIM.

August 1979

Mr. Sun Kyu Park and his wife Myung Hee Chun were sent to the Graduate School of Wheaton College as the candidates of missionaries.

September 1980

Land Breaking Service of construction for the Pauline House as the center of KIM and EWC/mrd.

Rev. Soo Gil Yoon and his wife Dae Hee Hahn were commissioned to missionaries to Thailand.

January 1981

Rev. Young Hee Lee was elected as the sixth Chairman of the Board of KIM.

David Dongjin Cho was conferred Honorary Doctor of Divinity from his alma mater, Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, Kentucky, USA. And he was stroked as heart attack in Los Angeles, California.

The US office of KIM was opened at the US Center for World Mission, Pasadena, California, USA.

Rev. Byung Sun Kim and his wife Eun Hee Hong were commissioned as missionaries to Indonesia. Rev. Sung Won Ahn and his wife Eun Sook Cho were commissioned as missionaries to Indonesia.

KIM/Thailand Station was formed and the total number of KIM missionaries in Thailand were 10.

KIM/Indonesia Station was formed ans the total number of KIM missionaries in Indonesia were 6.

February 1985

Rev. Joong Shik Kim and his wife Ae Kyung Lee were commissioned as missionaries to Thailand.

May 1985

KIM/International Board was formed by the KIM/Korea; KIM/US; KIM/Thailand; KIM/Indonesia representatives. David Dongjin Cho was elected as the International President.

August 1985

Rev. Sun Jin Park and his wife Jung Hwa Choi were commissioned to missionaries to Thailand.

The Board of KIM was enlarged. Rev. Kyung Doo Chang was elected as the 8th Chairman and Rev. Young Hee Lee was named as the President of KIM/Korea.

May 14, 1987

The KIM/US Board was enlarged. Dr. Young Jae Lee was elected as the Chairman of the Board of KIM/US, and Dr. Chun Il Cho was named as the President of KIM/US. Rev. Daniel Dongso Jho was appointed as the Executive Director of KIM/US and his wife, Jung Youn Park, was appointed as Assistant to the Executive Director of KIM/US.

David Dongjin Cho was elected as the Chairman of the Third World Missions Association at the Inaugural Conference of TWMA in Portland, Oregon.

Rev. Hee Mok Park and his wife, Hee Jung An, were commissioned as missionaries to Indonesia. Ms. Ok Hee Han was commissioned as missionary to Indonesia.

Rev. Greg Woon Young Paik and his wife, Young Eun Park, were commissioned as missionaries to Philippines.

November 1990

The first KIM/International Board Annual Conference was held in Singapore. According to the announcement of Dr. David Dongjin Cho’s early retirement from KIM/International President in 1993, De. Chun Il Cho was elected as coming President of KIM/International and Dr. Young Jae Lee was elected as Vice Presidnet of KIM/International, and Dr. Eun Moo Lee was appointed as the Executive Director as elected among the field missionaries. They would take place the positions from 1993.

Nov. 23, 1990

Dr. David Dongjin Cho was appointed as Visiting Professor of Kim Il Sung University and Pyong Yang Seminary. He visited annualy both schools in North Korea.

Jan. 12, 1991

The New Year Breakfast Prayer Meetings for National Unification of Korea were held in Seoul, Korea and in Los Angeles, California, USA simutaneously.

Apr. 15, 1991

David Dongjin Cho and five members of KIM made a mission trip to Eastern Europe until May 1, 1991.

Rev. Hyung Ik Kim and his wife, Hee Jung Han, were commissioned as missionaries to Indonesia. Rev. Young Myung Chung and his wife, Kyung Kim, were commissioned as missionaries to Indonesia.
